- Coated edges. Joints are treated so spills do not soak in straight away.
- Tight click joints. Less space for water to get into the core.
- Denser core. Absorbs water more slowly than standard board.
- Rated time. Each product states how long surface water can sit before it must be wiped up. Check that figure.
Suitable Rooms
Kitchens, entrance halls and living areas where spills happen. Bathrooms only if the manufacturer's documentation allows it, and then with the sealing it specifies.
Limitations
- Water can still get in at the expansion gap around the edges.
- Not suitable for showers, wet rooms or areas that are mopped with a lot of water.
- Warranty terms for wet areas vary. Read them before you buy.
Installation Considerations
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for sealing perimeter gaps in kitchens or bathrooms. Ask the installer which product they are quoting and for its documentation on water resistance.
