Floor Levelling is correcting dips, humps and slopes in a subfloor before new flooring is laid. Laminate needs a flat base: an uneven floor causes bounce, creaking and joints that open or break.
Send your floor area and a short description of the subfloor to get quotations.

- Grinding. High spots on concrete or screed are ground down.
- Patching. Cracks and small hollows are filled with a repair mortar.
- Levelling compound. A thin self-levelling layer poured over the floor to make it flat.
- Sand-cement screed. A thicker layer for larger height differences or a new floor build-up.
- Over timber. Loose boards are fixed, and sheets of board may be laid to create a flat surface.

What Affects the Quotation
- How far out of level the floor is, which sets the thickness of compound or screed.
- Floor area and access for mixing and pumping.
- Preparation: removing old adhesive, priming and repairing cracks.
- Drying time before the floor covering can go down.
Moisture Before Laminate
New screeds hold moisture for weeks. Laying laminate on a damp slab can cause swelling and mould. Ask the installer how they test moisture and how long the screed must dry, and use a moisture barrier over concrete as the flooring manufacturer specifies.

How flat does a floor need to be for laminate?
Within the tolerance in the laminate manufacturer's instructions, usually a few millimetres over a two-metre straight edge.
Can levelling compound go over tiles?
Often, with the right primer, if the tiles are firmly bonded. Loose tiles must be removed first.
How long before laminate can go down?
It depends on the product and thickness. Thin compounds can be ready within days, while sand-cement screeds take much longer.
