Herringbone Laminate Flooring uses short laminate boards laid at right angles in a zigzag, giving the look of traditional parquet. The boards come as left-handed and right-handed pieces that click together in the pattern.

- Board size. Short, narrow boards compared with standard planks.
- Pattern. Laid as a zigzag. Chevron is a different pattern with angled ends and needs chevron boards.
- Decors. Mostly oak-look, in light, natural, grey and dark tones.
- Ratings. Check the AC rating and thickness of each range, as with any laminate.
Suitable Rooms
Living rooms, dining rooms, entrance halls and bedrooms. The pattern works best in larger or regular-shaped rooms where it can be seen.
Limitations
- More cuts and more waste. Order extra boards, often 10% to 15%.
- Higher labour cost than straight planks.
- Setting out must be accurate. A crooked start shows across the whole room.
- Repairs are harder, as boards interlock in two directions.
Installation Considerations
Herringbone needs a flat subfloor, a careful layout from the centre of the room and a border or neat cuts at the walls. Ask the installer to show photos of herringbone they have laid.
