How It Works
- Request. You give your town or suburb, the rooms, the approximate floor area in m² and what is on the floor now.
- Match. Your request goes to independent flooring installers that may cover your area.
- Quote. Installers reply with availability and a price, or ask to measure first.
- Compare. You check the product, AC rating, underlay, trims, preparation and timing side by side.
- Hire. You hire the installer you choose, or nobody. There is no obligation.
- Install. The installer checks the subfloor, lays the floor and finishes the edges.
Only pay a deposit against a written quotation.
Laminate Styles and Finishes
- Oak-look planks. The most common decor. A printed oak image, not real timber.
- Grey, light and dark tones. Light floors make rooms feel bigger. Dark floors show dust and scratches sooner.
- Herringbone. Short boards laid in a zigzag. More cutting, more waste and higher labour.
- Textured surfaces. Embossed finishes that follow the wood grain and reduce glare.
- Water-resistant ranges. Sealed edges and coatings that resist surface spills for a stated time.
Thickness and Wear Ratings
- AC rating. The abrasion class. AC3 suits most homes, AC4 busy homes and light commercial use, AC5 heavy commercial use.
- Thickness. Usually 7mm to 12mm. Thicker boards feel more solid but are not automatically more durable.
- Underlay. Foam, foam with a moisture barrier or acoustic underlay, unless the boards have underlay attached.
- Water resistance. Varies by product. Check the manufacturer's documentation before using laminate in wet areas.
A good quotation names the product and its AC rating, not just the colour.

Get the Best QuoteWhat to Include in Your Request
- Your town or suburb.
- The rooms and the approximate floor area in m².
- Supply and installation, or installation only.
- The existing floor: tiles, screed, carpet, vinyl, laminate or timber.
- Any stairs, and roughly how many steps.
- When you would like the work done.
- Photos, if the form or WhatsApp lets you send them.
Availability
Availability depends on your area, the size of the job and the installer's schedule. Installers are independent and decide which jobs they take on, so not every request can be matched. Most installers measure on site before giving a firm price.
Comparing Installers
Whoever you consider, compare like with like:
- Product. Brand, range, thickness and AC rating, and whether it is water resistant.
- Underlay. Type of underlay and whether a moisture barrier is included over concrete.
- Preparation. Moisture testing, levelling and removal of the old floor.
- Finishing. Skirting or scotia, transition strips and door trimming.
- Track record. Photos of their own completed work and contactable references.
- Price terms. Per m² or fixed price, wastage allowance, VAT, deposit and what counts as an extra.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does this service work?
You send one request with your area, the rooms, the floor size and the work you need. Independent flooring installers that may cover your area can contact you with availability and prices. You compare and choose, or hire nobody.
Do you install the flooring?
No. We do not supply or install flooring or employ installers. Independent installers quote and do the work.
How much does laminate flooring cost per m² in South Africa?
Published South African rates put supply and installation at about R300 to R850 per m², with labour alone at about R90 to R250 per m². Removal, levelling and skirting are usually extra.
Can laminate go over tiles?
Often, yes, if the tiles are firm, flat and dry. Loose or hollow tiles must be fixed first, and the extra height can mean trimming doors.
Is laminate waterproof?
No. Some ranges are water resistant for a stated time, but standing water can still damage the core. Follow the manufacturer's documentation for kitchens and bathrooms.
How many quotations should I compare?
Two or three written quotations on the same product and scope are usually enough to see a fair price.
